Description

P. Bosse - "Visitez le Pavillon des Tabacs / Exposition Coloniale" Reproduction Poster (1931)

This is a reproduction of the original poster created by P. Bosse in 1931 for the Colonial Exhibition. It was part of a campaign by the French state-owned tobacco company, Service d'Exploitation Industrielle des Tabacs (SEIT). Founded in 1926, SEIT used the exposition to launch a new brand, Cigarettes Congo. The package for the new brand was designed by Bossé and featured the profile of a Congolese woman with a typical tribal hairstyle. In this large and powerfully-colored poster, the major addition is that the woman is now shown smoking.

The original poster was last seen at the Modernist Posters, May 10, 2012 - Sale 2278 auction by Swann Galleries.
