"Yes" Vote Would Help Rhodesian Tobacco Crop
The future of the Rhodesian tobacco crop hinges on the outcome of the "Yes" or "No" test of acceptability being held in Rhodesia now. Although the crop is being sold by roundabout ways, the price is low compared to what it would fetch on the world market. Nevertheless, owing to the very good growing year, this year's crop will be large and of good quality. Tobacco growers hope that by the time auctions start, which is normally late in March, but this year they may start later, so that an answer is obtained from the British Government on whether it is a "Yes" or "No" decision. If the answer is "Yes," then the auctions may be on an open basis, instead of on a secret basis as over the past years.
